Maurice W. Greek, 84, of 802 Sycamore Street, La Porte City, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at McAllen Medical Center's emergency room in McAllen, Texas from a pulmonary embolism.

Maurice was born September 14, 1919, in Palmer, Nebraska, the son of Maurice C. and Hattie Parkison Greek. He served in the U.S. Army during WW ll.

Maurice married Esther I. Tobiason on December 4, 1943 in Fullerton, Nebraska. They farmed in Nebraska and then in the Brandon-Mt. Auburn, Iowa area. He then worked for John Deere Tractor Works for 22 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Mt. Auburn American Legion Emil H. Dutler Post 177.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roger(Judy) Greek of La Porte City, Delbert (Joyce) Greek of Mesa, Arizona and Terry Greek and Joann of La Porte City; two daughters, George (Harry) Root of Gilbert, Arizona and Berneita (John) Carson of Atlanta, Georgia; 15 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and one great grandson, Caleb Harrill.

Services were held February 2, 2004 at Heartland Community Church with burial in West View Cemetery, both of La Porte City, Iowa. Military rites were performed by the Mt. Auburn Legion Emil H. Dutler Post 177.
