December 20, 1922 - April 30, 2015

Mildred Irene Hayes, 92, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Dike, Iowa, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Western Home Elizabeth Martin Health Care Center.

She was born December 20, 1922 in Hudson, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Sophia (Bulthuis) Collings. Mildred married Earl Hayes on August 12, 1952 in Plainfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death May 9, 1998. Mildred grew up in Morrison, Iowa and graduated in 1940 as valedictorian at Reinbeck High School. She worked in Cedar Falls and Waterloo at various office jobs, and later was a farmwife and mother.

Family was most important to her and she loved babysitting her grandchildren when they were small. Mildred also enjoyed gardening and crocheting in her free time. She was saved August 6, 1940. Mildred gathered with the Christians at the Stout Gospel Hall until moving to Cedar Falls in 2005, and was faithful to the Cedar Falls Assembly until her health hindered her attendance.

Survivors include three sons, Bruce (Debra) Hayes of Dike, Scott (Kim) Hayes of Cedar Falls, and Sid (Linda) Hayes of Dike; a daughter, Beth (George) Walvatne, of Hawkeye, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Betty) Collings, Jr., of Parkersburg, Iowa, and two sisters, Marjorie Patterson of Cedar Falls and Vera (Otis) Boyd of Eldridge, Iowa.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandchild, Breanna Walvatne, and two sisters, Ruth Chamberlain and Dorothy Haan.

Services will be held Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Stout Gospel Hall, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be 3—6:00 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the Gospel Hall. Memorials may be directed to the family.
