Ward Bickford

February 17, 1934 - May 23, 2015

Ward W. Bickford, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Western Home Communities, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born February 17, 1934, in Rockwell City, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Anna (Healy) Bickford. Ward married Phyllis Offe May 29, 1955, in Rockwell City. He was a graduate of Rockwell City High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State Teacher’s College. Ward served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ward was a teacher at West High School in Waterloo where he taught Industrial Arts and Driver’s Education. He also was an Industrial Hygienist at John Deere for 24 years, retiring in 1991. He was an Elder at Cedarloo Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Renae (Curtis) Baker of Burlington, Iowa, Marquisette Bickford of Kansas City, Missouri, and Diana (James) Lane of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Amanda (Joe) Gill, William Baker, Aaron Hughbanks and Madison Hughbanks; one great-grandson, Jase Gill; one brother, Dale (Lydia) Bickford of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and one niece, Ruth.

Ward was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Sheryl Bickford.

Services will be Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Cedarloo Church of Christ with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Visitation will be Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and also one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
