Biography--

Donald E. Mountain, 83, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, November 21, of natural causes.

He was born September 13, 1932, in Waterloo, son of Merrill and Jessie Loy Mountain. He married Carole Nicol on February 14, 1953, at the original Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo.

Donald worked at Rath Packing Co. for six years until going to John Deere for 36 years, retiring in 1991 as an experimental lab technician. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the class council. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1623, and he and his wife were foster parents for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters: Karen (Martin) Miller of Cedar Falls, Connie Smith of Marion, Kathy Shinstine of Waterloo, Kimberlee (Steven) Bymers of Blair, Nebraska, and Candace Mountain of Ankeny; a son, Craig (Stephanie) of Augusta, Georgia; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, El Rheta (Don) Krider of Peoria, Illinois; and two brothers, John (Marilyn) of Waterloo and Charles (Linda) of San Antonio.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; a foster son, Christopher Mountain; and three sisters, Elaine Hursh, Alice “Polly” Mountain and Ruth Shaw.
