Biography--

Clifford Peter Oleson, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo.

He was born December 25, 1922 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Edward and Magna (Petersen) Oleson. He married Marlys Venter September 29, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa and she preceded him in death October 26, 1971.

He married Jean O’Neill Glessner on June 24, 1973, in Cedar Falls. He was founder, in 1976, of Oleson Sod Company where he grew cultured turf grass sod and was active in the Turf Grass Producers International. He retired this September. Cliff was a football and basketball official for many years and was an active member of the National Farmers Organization. He was also active in Clowns with El Mecca Shrine and loved to play golf and bridge.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Oleson, of Cedar Falls; his son, Jack (Debra) Oleson, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Gay (Dennis) Riter, of Cedar Falls, and one step son, Rod (Susan) Glessner, of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Mike (Chris) Riter, Michelle Riter, Josh (Mara) Oleson, Justin (Jordanne) Oleson, and Stacy (Beau) Gibbs; one step grandchild, Tessa (Nick) Amato; five great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and one brother, Edward (Joyce) Oleson, of Fountain Valley California.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marlys; three sisters, Alice Siglin, Evelyn Heber, and Edna Metcalfe, and two brothers, Vernon and Richard Oleson.

Services will be Friday, October 16, 2015, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church and Children's Shiners Hospital in Minneapolis. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
