Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1021 Poplar Street, La Porte City

Visitation:
Public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1021 Poplar Street, La Porte City where there will be a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Biography--

Roberta M. “Bert” Marshall, age 87, of La Porte City, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Mallard Point Retirement Community in Cedar Falls.

Bert was born June 2, 1927 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter M. and Ethel E. Greenquist Berryhill. She was united in marriage with Edward “Red” Marshall on June 3, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City. She was employed by John Deere & Co. and Traveler’s Insurance prior to raising her family of five children.

Bert was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte City where she served as a sacristan for many years, and was a Eucharistic minister and lector. She was a charter member of VFW Post 3983 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bert volunteered at the La Porte City Senior Center and the La Porte City Schools.

She served as the first girl’s little league softball coach at the school. Bert loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Edward; two sons, Larry (Debbie) Marshall of Davenport, Iowa, and Tim (Jill) Marshall of Blue Grass, Iowa; and three daughters, Ramona “Moni” (Harvey) Hodges of Jansen, NE., Theresa (Mark) Jenkins of Floyd, Iowa, and Joan (Jeff) Havel of Grinnell, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald and Walter “Oscar” Berryhill, Jr.
