Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2211 Maynard Avenue in Waterloo

Visitation:
Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, 3146 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo and an hour prior to the services on Saturday at the Church.

Cemetery:
Inurnment in Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo with Full Military Honors accorded by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the US Air Force Honors Detail

Biography--

Gaylen E. “Buzz” Trasamar, age 77, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born June 20, 1937 in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Harry A. and Frances (Norris) Trasamar. Gaylen graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1954 and during High School he wrestled under Coach Bob Siddens. He served in the US Air Force in Military Intelligence. Gaylen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa in 1981. He was united in marriage with Teri Van Fleet on June 29, 1985.

His work as a tool and die maker took him to Texas, Mexico and China and his career culminated in his retirement from John Deere as an Industrial Engineer in 1998. Buzz was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo and had served as President of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. In his younger years, Buzz liked to play the guitar and sang in country and western bands. He was a licensed pilot and was a part of a flying club, and an avid scuba diver and visited many places in the world including Belize, Cozumel, Australia, New Zealand and Guatemala. Following retirement, he enjoyed wintering in South Padre Island, Texas and summers at a cabin (Garbin) in Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife, Teri of Waterloo; two sons, Gaylen Bret (Sue) Trasamar of Waterloo and Brian Trasamar (and his special friend Sharon Dozier) of Raleigh, N.C.; a niece, Coral (Denny) McGeough; two nephews, Dean Graveman and Gaylen Graveman; and beloved great nieces and nephews; his father-in-law, Earl Van Fleet; and two brothers-in-law, Robert (Donna) Van Fleet and Doug (Carol) Van Fleet.

Buzz was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Blain; a sister, Vi-Ann Graveman; his mother-in-law, Roberta Van Fleet and a sister-in-law, Jeri Van Fleet and his grandmother-in-law, Glapha Mussett.
