Services:
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2211 Maynard Avenue in Waterloo

Visitation:
Public visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church

Cemetery:
Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo

Biography--

Dorothy Mae Hoppenworth, age 85, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at her home.

She was born May 1, 1929 in Manchester, Iowa the daughter of Howard J. and Lena H. Helmrich Voelschow. Dorothy attended Waterloo West High School. She was united in marriage with Everett A. Hoppenworth on April 20, 1947, in Waterloo.

At the age of 15 she began working at the former Winters Dairy in Waterloo. During her career she worked at Walgreen’s, Woolworth’s and Peg Merridith Grocery. In more recent years she was employed by Maple Lanes, Hawkeye Photo and worked as a photo processor for McKenna Color Labs for 15 years.

In October 1985, Dorothy and Everett sold their home in Waterloo and moved to Apache Junction, AZ. They returned to the Cedar Valley in 2004. Dorothy was an avid quilter, enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She liked to keep in touch with family and friends via email and treasured time spent with her family. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Everett; three sons: Tony (Lois) Hoppenworth of La Porte City, Mark (Carol) Hoppenworth of West Fork, Arkansas, and Kevin Hoppenworth of Blairsville, Georgia; two daughters, Suzette (Jim) Schuchhardt and Gina Reeves, all of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a brother, Harold (Helen) Voelschow of La Porte City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Brynna Peters and a sister, Leah McSparin.
