Marion R. “Rosie” Thompson, age 86, of Waterloo, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at her home.
She was born February 17, 1928 in Decorah, Iowa the daughter of David P. and Ann Tinjum Mitchell. Rosie was united in marriage with Robert S. Thompson on August 4, 1949 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2002.
Rosie was employed in several places including the Decorah Hatchery, Woolworth’s Dime Store and Hinson Manufacturing. For many years she cared for her husband who was stricken with multiple sclerosis. She also served as the publicity chairwoman for the Multiple Sclerosis Society from 1961-1968. Rosie was a member of the Whittier School PTA and was an accomplished bowler who played in a number of leagues over the years.
Survivors include three daughters: Rebecca (Marty) McIntire of Greendale, Wisconsin, Barbara (Rick) Thorne of Cedar Falls and Loretta (Jim) Sobczak of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren plus one on the way; and a brother-in-law, Carl Leavell of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Kelly Marie McIntire; a sister, Betty Leavell and a brother, Charles Mitchell.
