Biography--

Othel "Dean" Gruver, 78, of Waterloo died at UnityPoint Health ‑ Allen Hospital on Friday, July 3, 2015.

He was born on March 29, 1937 in Waterloo, the son of Othel “Odie” and Vivian (Lemmon) Gruver.

Dean married Mary E. Watson, and they later divorced. He married Sue Kay on January 3, 1993 in Waterloo.

He worked as a machinist for John Deere for 30 years. Dean enjoyed golfing and loved fishing. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by: his wife; two sons: Kendall Gruver and Kary Gruver, both of Waterloo; two daughters: Betty Gruver of Cedar Falls and Dena Brandt of Waterloo; two step-daughters: Gina (Rick) Gerke of Fern and Robin (Shannon) Conaway of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Terry Gruver of Phoenix, Arizona and Ted (Lorraine) Gruver of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dean is preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Michael D. Gruver; and two sisters: Diane “Sue Hanson and Cynthia Gruver.
