Joe Wright

January 19, 1942 - January 15, 2015

Joe Allen Wright, Sr., was born on January 19, 1942, in Christiansburg, Virginia, the son of Richter and Mary (Beckner) Wright. He grew up in Virginia and moved to Waterloo when he was 25 years old. He then began his career as a foundry worker at John Deere.

On May 25, 1968, Joe was united in marriage to Janet Howard at St. Marks Methodist Church in Evansdale. Joe volunteered with the Evansdale Fire Department and was a member of the Local 838 UAW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching hockey, listening to Bluegrass music, watching the cooking channel, dirt track racing, and working on old cars. Most of all, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.

Joe died at his home at the age of 72 on Thursday, January 15, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Leanna in infancy and Tammy Stasko; and two brothers, Daniel “Boone” Wright and Nils “Rebel” Wright.

Joe is survived by his wife, Janet of Evansdale; two sons, Joe (Melissa) Wright, Jr. and Richard (Laura) Wright; a brother, Ernie (Sharon) Wright; a sister, Fran (Larry) Looney; six grandchildren, Darrick, Michael (Taylor), Cody, Macy, Sarah Stasko, and Richard Graham; and five great grandchildren. Joe will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
