George "Lanny" Long
July 28, 1938 to March 20, 2015
George “Lanny” Lansing Long was born July 28, 1938, son of George and Thelma “Lucille” (Lane) Long in Garrison, Iowa. He was a graduate of West High School in Waterloo with the Class of 1956.
George loved coffee and sweets; Western movies with heroes such as Roy Rogers and Gene Autry; watching the Braves, Cardinals, Brewers and Twins play baseball; and cheering Notre Dame and the Hawkeyes and Cyclones as they played basketball and football. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing softball and bowling with his son/best friend, Frank. George and Frank’s bowling team won their bowling league five years in a row!
George passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo at the age of 76 years from lung cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
George is survived by his son Frank Long of Waterloo; his sister Cleo Fish of Waterloo; two nephews and two nieces as well as other family and friends. George will be remembered for his kindness.
