Donald Leslie Baker

March 27, 1932 to May 10, 2015

Donald Leslie Baker was born March 27, 1932 to Leslie and Ruth Baker. He married Hiroko Bando on March 19, 1954. Donald entered the United States Army in 1949 where he received his GED. He was in the Korean and Vietnam War. Donald received many awards while in the Army, including the Vietnam Campaign Service Award, Korean Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, the Purple Heart, United Nation Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Start with Valor, and the Distinguished Unit Citation.

He retired as a Drill Sergeant from the Army after 23 years of service and he also worked for John Deere for 19 years. Donald could be found with a good book in hand and listening to music.

Donald is survived by his wife Hiroko; three sons: David (Adena) Baker; Dan (Judy) Baker; and Tony (Carol) Baker; a daughter, Susan (Luis) Martinez; seven grandchildren: Rachel Miller, Leslie Ellsworth, Justin, Dustin and Christopher Baker, Brandon and Brianna Martinez; five great grandchildren; two brothers: Dale (Belle) Baker; Darrel (Alice) Baker; a sister, Marilyn (Tom) Swanson.

Donald died on Sunday, May 10 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indiana, at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Douglas (Ox) Baker; an uncle, Wayne Baker; and an aunt, Evelyn Reeves.

He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
