Milo “Mike” James Van Schoyck

February 26, 1931 - July 3, 2015

Milo “Mike” James Van Schoyck was born February 26, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Carl & Carolyn (Koch) Van Schoyck. He attended West High School in Waterloo graduating with the Class of 1948. Mike later attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College.

He married Marie Ann Wright on December 9, 1951, and they were later divorced. Mike married Jessie Mae Haefele on December 31, 1999, in Alamo, Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. When Mike returned to civilian life, he worked for Rath Packing Company for 35 years until it closed in 1984.

He then owned and operated PNP Convenience Store in Waterloo for seven years until retiring in 1992. Mike enjoyed going to the Casino and watching NASCAR races as well as wintering in Texas with Jessie. He was a thoughtful, kind and witty man with a dry sense of humor and will be remembered for his meticulous attention to detail and routine.

Mike passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics at the age of 84 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Craig Van Schoyck.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jessie; one son, Jeffrey (Connie) Van Schoyck of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Linda (Allan) Haan of Waterloo; one stepson, Mark (Betsy) Haefele of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; one stepdaughter, Cheryl (Mark) Thada of Owatonna, MN; two grandsons, Brett and Matthew Van Schoyck of Cedar Falls; one granddaughter, Amanda (Dave) LeDoux of Gainesville, VA; and one great-grandson, Noah LeDoux.
