Fern Buffington

August 26, 1929 - August 12, 2015

Fern Elaine Buffington was born on August 26, 1929, Waterloo, the daughter of Fred and Bertha Klemz. Fern grew up in Cedar Falls and graduated from Cedar Falls Teacher’s High. On September 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Merlyn Buffington in Waterloo. Fern loved playing her Clavinova, gardening vegetables and flowers, her houseplants, sewing, painting, and especially quilting and crocheting.

Fern died at the age of 85 on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlyn in 1995; a son, Bruce; three sisters; and a brother.

Fern is survived by four children, Martin Buffington of Traer, Jennifer Blohm of Traer, James Buffington of Traer, and Doug (Angie) Buffington of Morrison; a grandson Eric Blohm of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Ruth Jergens of Cedar Falls. A private graveside service will be held at Buckingham Cemetery in rural Traer.
