Lorraine Helen Banes

July 31, 1922 to August 26, 2015

Lorraine Helen Banes was born on July 31, 1922 to Henry and Maggie (Peters) Midlenstein in Hudson, Iowa. She attended a country school in rural Hudson and finished her schooling in Traer.

Lorraine married William Banes on October 21, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their life in Traer, where they raised four children. William died on May 9, 1983. Lorraine was a homemaker, baby sitter and nurses aide. She worked for Schoitz Hospital and Sunrise Hill Care Center for a number of years. Lorraine loved spending time with family and friends. Some of her favorite pastimes included playing cards and different games, also sitting outside and reading.

Lorraine died on August 26, 2015 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, of cancer.

She is survived by three sons, Gary of Neenah, WI; Don of Bradenton, FL; Dennis (Chris) of Traer; a daughter-in-law, Judy Banes of Waterloo; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; a son, Richard Banes; a great-granddaughter; her brother, Harry Mildenstein; and four sisters, Gladys Wells, Linda Bulthius, Viola Schmidt and Inez Mildenstein.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home, 2001 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo, IA 50702.
