Scottie Hubert White was born on September 3, 1923, in Hale, Iowa, son of James William and Emma Mae (Staley) White. His family moved to Waterloo when he was a young child and he attended school until answering the call to the Civilian Conservation Corp at the age of 12.

At the age of 17 Scottie entered the United States Marine Corps. He served in World War II and later in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant and Chief Cook of the mess hall. After returning home he married Charlotte Farris and together they had eight children. The couple later divorced.

In 1973 he married Jeanine Gushard and they were married until Jeanine’s death in 2003. Scottie loved activities such as playing BINGO with his daughter, Deb, and roommate, Loris. He loved food whether he was drinking coffee, eating out, or preparing a meal at the Salvation Army. He especially enjoyed meeting and visiting with people: friends, family, or strangers alike.

Scottie passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Sartori Memorial Hospital at the age of 91.

He is survived by his children: Scott (Donna) White of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; James (Kristy) White of San Diego, CA; Robyn Zieske of MN; Jacquelyn/Kim (Jay) Thoren of Waterloo; Deb Bocook (Barry Thoren) of Waterloo; Juanita (Lonnie) Youngblood of Waterloo; and Kandee (Ray) Nielson of Cedar Falls; one step-son, Steven Sampica of TX; one step-daughter Becky (Paul) Wright of Evansdale; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jeanine; an infant daughter, Kathy Jo White; five brothers: Ray, Fred, Dale, Richard and Harold; and five sisters: Carrie, Amanda, Mae, Fae and Fran.

Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army of Waterloo.
