She was born February 4, 1921, in Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Carrie Kramer Lindaman.

From the time she was 12, Lorene knew she wanted to become a nurse and help people get well. Lorene joined the American Red Cross and later became a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps.

During World War II, she served on the surgical staff of a hospital ship that sailed to Cherbourg, France and transported wounded American soldiers to Southampton, England and Brooklyn, New York. After the war, Lorene did private duty nursing in Waterloo’s Presbyterian Hospital which later became Schoitz Hospital.

On August 17, 1946, Lorene married Dr. Edward Rohlf; he died January 25, 1970. From this union were born: Jean (Randy) Jordison of Iowa City; Jane (Ted) Boyer of Princeton, New Jersey; Janet (Sam) Holden of Waterloo; Edward III of Gloversville, New York; and John of Cedar Falls. She is survived by her brother, Harold Lindaman of Vinton, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Lorene was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served as Deacon, Trustee, and Elder. She was involved in the Schoitz Hospital Auxiliary where she was president and headed the Candy Striper program. Lorene was a member of Chapter Z PEO for 68 years where she also served as president.
