Obituary for Veldon R. Janssen

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Veldon R. Janssen, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the Western Home Communities Stanard Family Assisted Living Center.

He was born September 6, 1927, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Albert E. and Marjorie M. (Brunk) Janssen. He married Lela Ann Patten on August 20, 1949 in Springville, Iowa.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1945 and was drafted into the US Army Special Services during WWII. He was employed for over 21 years with John Deere in Instrumentation and Data Acquisition, retiring in 1984.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Deb (Rick) Gerken of Cedar Falls, Barb (Bud) Chapman of Waterloo, and Cathy (David) Swarts of Cedar Falls; a son, Jim (Jodi) Janssen of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother Gene (Alice) Janssen of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Janssen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Service with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and also for one hour prior to services Saturday.
