Jack Raymond Cobb (1927-2015)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Jack Raymond Cobb, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born September 20, 1927, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Foy and Clara Schuck Cobb. He married Veronica Durnan in 1948 at Immaculate Conception Church in Fairbank, Iowa. They were married 66 years on October 23, 2014.

Jack graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1945. Following graduation he enlisted in the Marines. In 1950 he joined the Marine Reserve Unit in Waterloo. His unit was called up and he spent 14 months in Korea. He retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1985 after 37 years of service. Jack enjoyed working in his yard and growing roses. He liked to ballroom dance and line dance.

Jack was survived by his wife, Veronica; two daughters, Molly (Mike) Frost of Westfield, MA, and Cathy (Kenton) Gleichman of West Des Moines; a son, David (Tora) Cobb of Olathe, KS; nine grandchildren, Joe (Amy) Frost, Philip (Erin) Frost, Allison Gleichman, Christina (Matt) Mulcahy, Anna Gleichman, Cloe, Nile, Connie and Jack Cobb; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Wilder and Violet Frost; and one sister, Nancy Parr of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Schuey; and a grandson, Jeffrey Frost.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Vigil Service.
