Mildred M. Melka (1928-2015)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Mildred M. “Millie” Melka, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

She was born August 4, 1928 in Charles City, Iowa, daughter of William and Ines (Ballard) White. She married James Backen and they later divorced. She married Kenneth Melka and he preceded her in death in 2008.

She was a seamstress with Powers Manufacturing and Hinson Manufacturing.

She is survived by three sons: James (Terri) Backen of Mesa, AZ, Bud Backen of Cordova, IL, and Michael (Melissa) Backen of Evansdale; a son-in-law, Alton Hintz of Denver; ten grandchildren: seven great grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Huck of Pleasant Hill; and two step brothers, Johnny and Danny White, of Iowa.

Preceded in death by: a son, Ronnie Backen; a daughter, Vickie Hintz; and three sisters, Beverly Smith, Elsie Schaffer, and Vera Ackerman.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, with burial in Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and also for one hour prior to the service Friday.
