Larry Lee Aswegan
1951-2015

Larry Lee Aswegan, 64, of Castle Rock, Colorado, formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died peacefully at home with his wife by his side on July 16, 2015.

Larry was a kind loving man, with a strong and determined character, always ready to quietly lend support or a helping hand. Born June 2, 1951 in Fern, IA to Lawrence and Lois Aswegan. He resided in Cedar Falls from 1956 to 1994. Larry graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1969. He married Kathleen Frost in 1971 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Falls; they later divorced. Larry was a dedicated cyclist, riding in Iowa’s Ragbrai and Colorado’s Ride the Rockies many times over the years. He was an active member of Rainbow Cyclists bike club and helped to create the “Frank Family” group of cyclists in Cedar Falls. Employed by Northwestern Bell in 1972 and was transferred to Colorado in 1994.

He married Sandra Austin in 2001 at Faith Lutheran Church in Castle Rock, CO. Larry retired from Qwest in 2009 after 37 years of employment. After retirement, Larry volunteered his services at Faith Lutheran Church and Pioneer Elementary School. He was a devoted supporter and Den leader for Pack 369 of the Boy Scouts of America, and self appointed “Big Kahoona” of the “Bearlily Way Gang” watching over the children in the neighborhood to keep them safe and happy.

Survived by his wife Sandra; daughter Elizabeth Aswegan (Derek Larson); the children and grandchildren of his heart, step-children Tiffanie Jessop (Glen), Jacob Price (Charett Stokes), Sabrina DeWitt, Cherise Burkett (Nate), grandchildren Jaden Jessop, Aubrey Jessop, Alex Jessop, Ashton DeWitt, Luke Jessop, Kenley Burkett, Greyson Price, Camden Burkett; mother Lois Aswegan; brother Lynn Aswegan (Tammy); and a score of truly appreciated in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Aswegan.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for all of the love and support they received during Larry’s long and painful struggle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 2:00pm, at St Johns Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, IA. After the service a reception will be held at the church, followed by a Celebration of Life at Toad’s Bar & Grill, downtown Cedar Falls. Blue was Larry's favorite color; feel free to wear something blue to the service.
