June 26, 1976 - November 25, 2014

Shawonyta Marquis “Marq” Norman, Sr., 38, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1976, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the son of Perry L. (Valerie) Norman and Vicki (Lewis) Aldridge.

Marq graduated from East High School in 1995 and from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Services in 2001. His last place of employment was Tyson for the past 5 years. He was a people person and he loved helping others. He was baptized as a youth at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church.

Marq loved sports. He took 1st place in broad jumping at Drake Relay and qualified for the state wrestling while attending East High. He loved being with his family, friends, cooking and fishing on the banks of Iowa.

Marq is survived by seven children: four daughters; Nautika Bradley-Norman of Des Moines, Iowa, Nyla Norman, Alea Norman and Miah Norman all of Evansdale, Iowa; three sons; JaMarcus Bradley-Norman of Des Moines, Iowa, Shawonyta (Ta) Norman, Jr. of Evansdale, Iowa and Jakhi Hodges of Denver, Colorado; his father, Perry (Valerie) Norman of Waterloo; his mother, Vickie (Lewis) Aldridge of Waterloo; three brothers, Perry Johnson-Norman of Denver, Colorado, DeCarlos Anderson of Oakland, California and LaVance Cooper of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters, LaTrese Johnson, Mary Spates and Syphina Brown all of Waterloo, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Rosie Norman, a special friend, Michelle Smith and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joe Harris, Sammy and Pauline Brown and Gertrude McKissick; maternal great-grand parents, Ida Powell; paternal grandparent, Charles L. Norman; great-grandparents, Johnny and Florence Gary, Willie and Mrs. Jimmie Norman.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 5, at Union Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation also for an hour preceding services at the church.
