Robert Bruce Wilson

August 1, 1923 - December 7, 2014

Robert Bruce Wilson, 91, died December 7, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born August 1, 1923 in Manly, son of Clarence and Agnes Hannon Wilson. He married Shirley Reisser on November 30, 1946 in Vinton.

Robert graduated from Kensett High School in Kensett, Iowa, in 1940. He graduated from Gates Business College with a business degree in 1947. Robert was a Marine Corp. veteran, serving during World War II. He was a mortgage banker with Rothchild Financial Corp. for forty-one years, retiring December 1, 1987. Robert was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife; seven sons, Gregory (Mary) Wilson of Greenville, N.C., Stephen Wilson of Waterloo, Christopher (Sue) Wilson of Waterloo, Jeffrey (Toni) Wilson of Waterloo, Dennis (Jennifer) Wilson of Cedar Falls, Leonard Wilson of Springfield, Mo. and Francis (Toni) Wilson of Urbandale; five daughters, Victoria Vollenweider of Shawnee, Kansas, Teresa (Terrance) McDonald of Iowa City, Cecilia Wilson of Louisville, Colorado, Rose (Robert) Deutsch and Linda (Steve) Bearbower of Waterloo; twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Gasaway of Mason City and Joan Reindl of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Marie; a grandson, Jonathan Deutsch; two sisters, Mildred Dillon and Dorothy Muldoon; a son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Vollenweider.

Services will be Thursday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 91 and the Evansdale Amvets Post 31, assisted by the U.S. Marine Corps honor guard. Public visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St., where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Columbus Catholic High School or Cedar Valley Hospice.
