December 31, 1932 - December 11, 2014

Jack G. Niemann, 81, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, December 11 at Unity Point Allen Hospital, in Waterloo.

He was born December 31, 1932 in Davenport, son of William and Edna Claussen Niemann. He married Sydney Rashid April 26, 1958, in St. Paul the Apostle Church, Davenport.

Jack graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1950 and from Northwestern University with a degree in finance in 1954 and then served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with John Deere as a controller for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Jack served on the boards of the United Way, Sunnyside Country Club, and St. Edwards Catholic Church Council.

He enjoyed many hobbies including golf, gardening, woodworking, painting, duck carving, and ship building. In retirement, he especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, a son Jeff (Troy Weiland) Niemann of Des Moines, two daughters, Julie Schoonover and Kathy (Kevin) McClain, both of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Joshua (Jillian) Schoonover, Ashley (Cole) Odneal, Amanda Schoonover, Abby McClain and Connor McClain; three great grandchildren, Ava, Gable, and Adalynn.

Preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-8p.m. Monday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
