Leo James Kruth

December 20, 1946 - December 16, 2014

Leo James Kruth, 67, of Evansdale, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 16, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born December 20, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Everest and Ruth Geerts Kruth. He married Marlene Grady on July 24, 1971, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Evansdale.

Leo served in the United States Army and was employed as a maintenance welder at John Deere, retiring in 1996. He then owned and operated L.J.’s Welding and Fabrication in Waterloo.

Survivors include: his wife, Marlene of Evansdale; his mother, Ruth Kruth of Waterloo; three sons, Jeremy (Jess) Kruth, Mark (Dawn) Kruth all of Waterloo, and Ryan Kruth of Evansdale; a daughter, Elizabeth Kayser of Jesup; five grandchildren, Kamryn Kayser, Joylyn Kopp, Natalie Kruth, Tyler Kruth, and Shawn Kruth; a brother, Joseph (Barb) Kruth of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Theresa (Roger) Shipp of Minneapolis, Minn.

Preceded in death by: his father, Everest Kruth.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 20, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation from 3-8 P.M. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 P.M. Knights of Columbus Rosary and 7 P.M. vigil service. There will not be visitation at the church on Saturday.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
