January 25, 1931 - December 25, 2014

Darlene Mae Herink Soska, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, December 25, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born January 25, 1931, in Tama County, the daughter of James F. and Violet Podhajsky Herink. She married Frank Soska on September 3, 1952, in Clutier and he died February 5, 1987.

Darlene attended Carroll #3 until the 8th grade and graduated from Traer High School in 1949. She farmed with her husband and was the Activity Director in the Traer Care Center and Roberts Care Center. She also worked at the Rocking Horse Craft Store in Waterloo and Randall’s Grocery Store in Hudson for over five years. She was a videographer capturing weddings, baptisms, funerals and parties. She was member of the Red Hats, Sunshine Club, the KD’s Bible Study, Women’s Connection and Mac Pack Club.

Survivors include: three sons, Michael (Linda), Nicholas (Jaci) all of Waterloo, and Jeffrey of San Ferando, Calif; three daughters, Barbara (Dennis) See of Montrose, Debra (Chris) Foss of La Porte City, and Donna (Brian) Brunsen of Waterloo; nineteen grandchildren, Aaron, Ashly, Anita, Abbie, Jeremiah, Nicole, Heather, Amanda, Chasitiy, Angela, Melissa, Kristi, Adam, Deann, Tanya, Brent, Brody, B.T.; sixteen great-grandchildren, Lucas, Livia, Madeline, Sophia, Lane, Taylor, David, RaeLynn, Gage, Teagan, Aleasia, Jackson, Jadyn, Kristalynn, Joeziah, and Micha; a brother, James Herink of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 29, at St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Church, Eagle Center, with burial at 2 P.M. in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Clutier. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 P.M. rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the family.
