Biography--

Bernice Margaret Tomkins, 88, of Raymond, Iowa, died Saturday at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born August 10, 1926, in Bowdle, South Dakota, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Wirtz Frost. She married Paul R. Tomkins on October 21, 1947, in Raymond and he died February 21, 1991.

Bernice worked at the Blacks Coffee Shop, owned and operated Raymond Grocery, was employed at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in the hot lunch program and was a homemaker.

Survivors include: three sons, Thomas (Margaret) Tomkins of San Diego, Calif, Gerald Tomkins of La Porte City, and Steven (Mary) Tomkins of Waterloo; three daughters, Margaret Peske of Elk Run Heights, Patricia McGee of Bettendorf, and Suzanne (Bradley) Scobee of Elk Run Heights; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: four brothers, Edmund Frost, James Frost, Paul Frost and Ronald Frost; a sister, Lucille Frost.

Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 29, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, both in Raymond. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 4 P.M. rosary and 7 P.M. vigil service. There will not be visitation at the church Thursday.

In lieu of flowers memorials: may be directed to the church or the Bosco System.
