Death: January 30, 2015Clara Blanche Nelson, 87, of Waterloo, died Friday, January 30 at her home.
She was born May 15, 1927 in Manly, Iowa, daughter of Christy and Blanche Yezek Hebel. She married Cecil Nelson on April 27, 1946 in Manly. He died December 10, 1988.
She is survived by her son, Larry Nelson of Waterloo; her daughter, Karen Freshwater of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Jim Kelly, April Perry, Sara and Nathan Robinson; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Christy Hebel of Yelm, Wash.; her sister, Dorothy (Tom) Naples of Cross Lake, Minn.; and two sister-in-laws, Irene Nelson of Mason City and Ila Hebel of Manly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Dixie (Jim) Kelly, Cindy Pothast; her son-in-law, Paul Robinson; five brothers, Jack, Emil, Bernard and two brothers in infancy; seven sisters, Veronica Reed, Betty Isenhart, Adelaide Anderson, Mary Mandt, Donna Wieland, Dixie Nelson and Blanche Saland.
Services will be held Wednesday, February 4, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Friends may also call an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Clara loved her rose garden, sewing, antique collecting, her 750 Honda motorcycle and her faithful companion, Prince.
