Life Legacy--

Mary “Barb” Vestal, 79, of Waterloo, died Monday at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born June 10, 1935 in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Loretta Blocker Essman. She married Lynn Vestal on October 22, 1955 in Charles City.

Mary worked in the Black Hawk County recorder’s office as a clerk for eighteen years, retiring in 1997.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael of Boone and David of Waterloo; a daughter, Diane Vestal of Waterloo; two granddaughters, Danielle Vestal and Amanda Vestal; two great-granddaughters, Alexys and Raynah; a great grandson, Zane.

She was preceded by her parents; a brother, Jim Essman and a sister, Ilona Castle.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Memorials may be made to the family.
