Biography--

Robert Mejia, Sr., 93 of Waterloo, died Thursday, May 21 at Manor Care Health Services.

He was born October 13, 1921 in Coffeeville, Kansas, the son of Esteban and Ophelia Mejia. He married Elma Sotelo in 1942. She died July 8, 2001.

Robert owned and operated Peterson Body Shop, then was a mechanic for Tate Cadillac Olds. Later, he sold real estate in California and Alaska. He was a limousine driver for the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf and then returned to Waterloo and worked as a greeter and also in the garden shop at Lowe’s. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Army Air Corps.

Survivors include three daughters, Connie (Juventino) Mejia-Rosales of East Moline, Ill., Diana Mejia and Gloria (Manny) Souza all of Aptos, Calif.; three sons, David (Dr. Kathy Novota) Mejia of Louisville, Ky., Richard (Lita) Mejia of Santa Cruz, Calif. and Raymond (Jeanette) Mejia of Warrensville, Ill. and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Dr. Robert Mejia, Jr.

There will be no services. Robert’s cremains will be scattered at the Bridges of Madison County at a later date.
