Lucille Marie (Kern) Penning

Lucille Marie Penning, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, August 28, 2015, at home.

She was born July 20, 1939, North of Waverly, Iowa, daughter of George and Anna (Schumacher) Kern. She married Henry Penning on July 21, 1962.

Lucy grew up around Janesville and graduated from Janesville High School. She worked at The Riveria, Powers Manufacturing, Waterloo Tent & Awning and Serve Quick Cleaners.

Lucy is survived by: her husband, Henry; a daughter, Charlene (Scott) Franke of Dubuque; a son, George of Waterloo; a sister, Katherine Kern of Janesville; a sister in-law, Mary Kern of Waverly; three grandchildren Tyler, Nicole and George James and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: her mother and dad; two brothers, Robert and Edward Kern; a
sister, Helen Hamm; and a sister in-law, Mary Kern of Missouri.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before services on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice or the Visiting Nurses Association.

Lucy enjoyed spending her time sewing and quilting and working with her flower garden.
She enjoyed eating out at different restaurants and baking and canning with her husband. Most of all she loved keeping in touch with her grandkids on Facebook.
