Dan Steen, 60, of Waterloo, died at his home, Thursday, December 11, 2014, following a lengthy illness.
Daniel Ray Steen was born July 20, 1954, in Waterloo, the son of Kenneth and Geraldine Guild Steen. He graduated from Hampton High School 1973. Dan worked five years at John Deere, then in construction, and the last 18 years as foreman for Story Construction Company. He was involved in construction of landmark buildings all over the state and region.
Dan married Jean Davis December 12, 1981, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Dan was a family man with kisses for Jean, time for children and lessons for grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time outside hunting and camping. He developed a skill with his hands into making yard ornament scorpion art pieces, and enjoyed selling at flee markets and the people he met there.
He is survived by his wife Jean; three step sons: Tom Caltvedt of Waterloo, Sam (Kelly) Caltvedt of Wellman, Iowa, Dean (Katherine) Caltvedt of Shellsburg, Iowa; four grandchildren: Jamie, Jessica, Jeremiah, and Jackie Caltvedt; step mother Shirley Steen of Waterloo; sister Judy (Andrew) Davis of Waterloo and twin sister Deb (Dave) Steege of Evansdale; four brothers: Craig Steen of Albany, Georgia, Kip Steen of Waterloo, Tim (Gayla) Steen of Waterloo, Brian (Kris) Steen of Waterloo; five step sisters: Jeani (Craig) Reichmann of Independence, Iowa, Sheri (Kelly) VanDyke of Jesup, Janice (Jack) Hoffman of Evansdale, Barb (Mark) Rust of Waterloo, Betty Binard of Waterloo; three step brothers: Larry (Steph) Hoffer of Brandon, Jim Hoffer of Waterloo, John Hoffer of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step brother Tom Hoffer, and sister in law Donna Steen.
