Biography--

Alma Strempke, 86, of Waterloo, died at the Edgewater Community, West Des Moines, Sunday, December 14, 2014.

Alma was born February 12, 1928, in Coatsburg, IL, daughter of A.B. “Ben” and Carrie Tjaden Dittmer. She graduated from high school in Liberty, Illinois and received her teaching certificate from Wartburg College. Alma married Donald J. Strempke 1950 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, he died 2002.

Don and she farmed on Independence Ave and she taught school at Dunkerton Elementary School, retiring in 1979. She was a member of St John's Lutheran Church (Bennington Township), Sunday School teacher, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA), Red Hat Ladies, Dunkerton Women's Club, holding offices in every group she belonged to.

She loved the outdoors -- flowers, birds, and other wonders of God's creation -- spending time with family, vacationing in Florida with her sister Carolyn and brother-in-law Wayne, reading, playing family games, and music.

Alma is survived by son David (Catherine) Strempke of Waterloo; son Dennis (Elizabeth) Strempke of Fairfax; son Duane (Karen) Strempke of West Des Moines; daughter Karen (James) Post of Titonka; son Daniel (Anne) Strempke of Olathe, Kansas; ten grandchildren: Jason (Andrea), Justin (Leighan), Matthew, Mark D., Emily (Tyler) Kamish, Mark P. (Shelah), Rachel (Jason) Wubben, Scott Post, Andrew, Sarah; two Step-grandchildren: Amy (Thomas) Stern, Nicholas Probst; ten Great-grandchildren: Austin & Tyler Ussery, River, Dylan, Greyson Strempke, Connor & Quinn Kamish, Kinley Strempke, Carter & Aubri Wubben; step great-grandchild: Skylar Stern; brother Edward(Judy) Dittmer of Liberty, Illinois; brother Wilfred (Jeanne) Dittmer of Quincy, Illinois; sister Carolyn (Wayne) Pond of Liberty, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Verna Dittmer, husband, infant son Donald J. Strempke Jr.

Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bennington Township, 4110 East Mount Vernon Rd.

Visitation:
Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home
