Biography--

Steven R. Helfer, 62, of Waterloo died Friday, April 3, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

He was born September 8, 1952 in Waterloo, son of Ralph and Charlotte Cole Helfer. Steven grew up in La Porte City and graduated from Union High School in La Porte City in 1970 and also received an Associate Degree from Kirkwood Community College.

He had worked for the Clayton County Health and Zoning Department as a Public Health Sanitarian and Zoning Administrator. Steven liked music, travel, and Bible study.

Steven married Joyce Looney June 17, 1995 in Waterloo. He served as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Helfer of Waterloo; step daughter Jennifer Weber of Waterloo; two grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Wermager and Geraldine Kay (Bob) Blazek both of Marion, Iowa.

Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerry and Dick Turner
