Willie Mae Sudduth, 91, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Falls on Friday, May 1, 2015 of natural causes.
She was born September 2, 1923 in Greenwood, Mississippi, the daughter of Eugene and Rachel Dolton Smith.
Willie Mae married Guy Dell Sudduth, Sr. in Preston, Minnesota. He died April 27, 1981. She was head cook at the Lily Ferguson Child Development Center. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Missionary Church. Willie Mae and her husband had been strong advocates for foster parenting and adoption. They were foster parents to several sets of children. Together, they encouraged other families and were instrumental in assisting with adoptions in the Waterloo area.
She is survived by her daughter, Lela Mae (James) Culpepper and son, Guy Dell Sudduth, Jr., both of Waterloo; daughter, Rachel Lynn (Eugene) Phillips of Bloomington, Illinois; and son, Toril E. (Charletta) Sudduth and daughter, Reatha Mae (Marlon Sr.) Phillips, both of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; 35 great‑grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, L.B. Portis and Ida Reed.
