Vernon William Abbott, 79, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at ManorCare Health Services from complications of a long illness.
He was born in the family’s log cabin on August 5, 1935, in Big Fork, Minnesota, son of Uyless and Opal Eckert Abbott. He married Paula C. Losee on June 11, 1960, in Waterloo; she died July 2, 2010.
Vernon owned and operated Abbott Trenching, retiring in the early 1990s. He was a member of Lighthouse Fellowship Church, where he helped with the mowing. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, and fishing.
He is survived by: three daughters, Vernetta (Timm) Jensen of Dunkerton, Iowa and Lynn (Ed) Albert and Annie (Larry) Tyler, both of Waterloo; a son, William of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Jocelyn) Jensen, Michele Berry, Michael (Tara) Tyler, Devon Albert, Destiny Abbott, Chance Abbott and Hope Abbott; a great-grandson, Owen Tyler; a sister, Pearl (Don) Spore of Waverly, Iowa; and two brothers, Roland (Delma) of Delta, Colorado, and Daryl (Bev) of Dysart, Iowa.
Vernon was preceded in death by: his parents and wife.
Friday at Lighthouse Fellowship Church, 1737 Cornwall Ave., Waterloo
Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.
