Biography--

Dorothy Eleanor Winter, 78, of Friendship Village, Waterloo died there Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born September 3, 1936, in Bridgeton, New Jersey, the daughter of John Edward and Dorothy Emma Ayres Zlobik.

She married Francis “Doc” Winter on June 26, 1965, in Iowa City. Dorothy received her Bachelor’s Degree from Elizabethtown College in New Jersey and her Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa.

During her career she briefly taught speech pathology and audiology before becoming Director of the Follow Through program, worked for a short time as Principal at Lowell Elementary, and Director of Early Childhood Education for Waterloo Community Schools, retiring in May of 1996.

Dorothy was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and an ordained Elder. She was also a member of PEO, AAUW, YMCA, DAR (local chapter, state Regent, and national committees), School Administrators of Iowa, and National Association of Elementary School Principals. She was recognized numerous times by the U.S. Dept. of Education for her many accomplishments.

Survivors include her husband Francis “Doc” Winter of Waterloo and a brother William Zlobik and sister Joan Nowcid, both of New Jersey.

Monday, June 22, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1301 Kimball Ave., Waterloo

Visitation:
Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Locke Funeral Home where there will be a 4:00 Daughters of the American Revolution service

Cemetery:
Waterloo Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa

Memorials:
Westminster Presbyterian Church or Daughters of the American Revolution
