Biography--

La Verne Eugene Cutsforth, 88, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 22, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 19, 1927, in rural Chickasaw County, son of William and Elizabeth McGrane Cutsforth. He married Charlene J. Gordon in Cedar Falls May 16, 1949.

A 1947 graduate of Lawler High School, Lawler, and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, La Verne was a captain for the Waterloo Fire Department, retiring in 1984 after 29 years of service. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a very active member serving on various church boards.

La Verne was a skilled wood worker and made many improvements and renovations to his home and to the church. He adored spending time with his family and worked hard to support and provide for them. La Verne also delighted in spending mornings with fellow members of the Crossroads Hy-Vee Breakfast Club throughout his retirement.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Steven (Marcia), Michael (Lynette) and Jeffrey (Lynne), all of Waterloo, and Kevin (Norma) of Cedar Rapids; 8 grandchildren: Nicole (Jeremy Reese) Cutsforth Chamberlin, Allison Cutsforth, Kerry (Kristy) Cutsforth, Keenan (Sarah) Cutsforth, Kevin (Sarah Patterson) Cutsforth, Dylan Cutsforth, April (Sheldon) Klein and Lindsey (Chris) Orueta; seven great-grandchildren: Parker Chamberlin, Nolan Reese; Elijah, Hayden and Anna Klein; and Olivia and Cecelia Orueta; a brother, Cletus of St. Paul Park, Minn.; a sister, Ida Mae Yearling of Waterloo; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Cutsforth of Waterloo and Bernice Cutsforth of Fredricksburg.

Preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings: Robert, Herbert, Arlene, James, William, Merle, Mabel, Virgil and Glen.

Services:
Thursday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 Kimball Ave., Waterloo.

Visitation:
Wednesday, at Locke Funeral Home and for an hour before services at the church.

Cemetery:
Waterloo Cemetery with military honors by Lawler American Legion, U.S. Navy Honor Guard, Evansdale Amvets Post #31 and Waterloo Amvets Post #19.
