Biography--

Richard E. "Dick" Leibe, 87, of the Western Home Community, formerly of Waterloo, died at Windhaven of Western Home Communities Sunday, July 12, 2015.

Dick was born October 13, 1927, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Ethel Asbury Leibe. He married Marjorie Elaine Paine March 4, 1949 in Fairbank, Iowa.

He graduated from Fairbank High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and during the Korean War and retired after 37 years from John Deere in 1985.

Dick was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men, a member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge #105, past secretary and treasurer of High 12, and life member of Waterloo VFW Post #1623.

Dick was the classic working class hero - he joined the Army out of High School, married his sweet heart, enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling with Marjorie, and retired after 37 years from John Deere. He was a happy – gentle – kind-hearted - loving man, always with a smile. In May 2011 he was thrilled to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to honor his service to his country.

Survivors include: his wife, three daughters: Karen Hansen of Cedar Falls; Carol (Craig) Zanatta of Brooklyn, Iowa; Darlene (Terry) Lange of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren: Tara and Chelsea Hansen and Cory and Lori Lange; and two great grandchildren: Myra Lange and Taydom Lange.

Preceded in death by: Parents and brothers Warren and John Leibe.

10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Locke Funeral Home

Visitation:
5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Locke Funeral Home with public Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. by Waterloo Masonic Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M.

Cemetery:
Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls with military rites by Waterloo VFW Post #1623, American Legion Post #138 and Iowa Army National Guard Honor Guard
