Philip Sours, Sr. – March 19, 1868 – October 5, 1944

PHILIP SOURS, SR.

Funeral services for Philip Sours, 76 of 310 Iowa Street, who died from cardiac asthma at 9:10 a.m. Thursday at his home, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Maurice Scallon officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Born March 19, 1868 in Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of Samuel and Anna Rex Sours, he married Beatrice Foley on April 19, 1899, in Perry, Oklahoma. They made their home in Marble Rock until 1929, when he retired from an independent gas and oil business and moved with his family to Waterloo. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church here.

Surviving, besides his wife, are three daughters, Catherine, at home, Mrs. A. J. Staudt, 172 Graceline Boulevard, and Mrs. Joseph Ernster, 310 Iowa Street; five sons, Pvt. Leo J., serving with the army engineers in France, Sgt. John, with a medical division in France, Marine Cpl. James, in the south Pacific, Philip Jr, at home, and Ray, 1021 Grant Avenue; and 10 grandchildren.

The body is at the O’Keefe & Towne Funeral Home.
