Bert Gay Stewart was born on farm near La Porte City, Iowa, April 30, 1873, and died at Waterloo, Iowa Feb. 14, 1904 His early life was spent in Dysart, where he attended the public schools until the removal of his parents to Waterloo in 1890, when he entered the West Waterloo High School, graduating in 1892. He attended the Waterloo Business College, taking a course in stenography and type writing, graduating from that institution in 1893.

He entered the service of Bums Sullivan, lawyers, studied law, attended the Wisconsin. State University for a short time, but had to give up school work on account of an attack of rheumatism. He returned to Waterloo, studied law with the late J. F Burns, which Continued until his death only seven weeks ago.

Deceased leaves, besides his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stewart, four brothers and three sisters: Fred E. of Waterloo; Kirk of Chicago; Mrs. C. S. Morton of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Dr. Clark A. of Traer; Mrs. C. M. Snyder, Blanche and Robert O., of Waterloo.

The funeral service was held from the home this afternoon, conducted by Rev. Samuel Callen and Rev. C. H. Seccbmbe, and interment was in Elmwood Cemetery [Waterloo]. The Masons and Knights of Pythias, of which orders deceased was a member, turned out in a body. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors.
