[Waterloo Semi Weekly Courier, Friday, January 4, 1907, Waterloo, Iowa]

Black Hawk Pioneer Succumbs to Heart Failure Sunday.

Charles Kleckner, who expired suddenly while sitting in a chair last Sunday evening at six o'clock, was buried yesterday afternoon. The funeral was held from the Baptist church and the services were conducted by Rev. E. J. Lange of the German Evangelical denomination.

Mr. Kleckner had not been feeling well for some time, but was not sick enough to take to his bed. Heart disease caused his death.

Mr. Kleckner was a pioneer settler of Buchanan County, where he located in 1865. After a short residence there he came to Barclay Township.

He was born in Pennsylvania in 1833, and was 74 years old. He was married in 1861 to Anna Buss, who was born in Germany in 1845, and to this union a son, George S. Kleckner, was born. Mr. Kleckner began life without money capital but with the better capital of a courageous heart and two strong hands. At one time he owned 240 acres of land in Barclay Township and was considered well to do.

Several years ago he retired moved to Dunkerton.
