EVANSDALE - Jay F. Hoffman, 89, of Evansdale, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born March 22, 1925, in Newton, son of Jacob and Mabel Irene Gaskins Hoffman. He married Marian Jeanette Alderson on Nov. 4, 1944, in Minneapolis.

Jay graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1944 and attended business school in Waterloo and Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis. He worked as manager of the Public Employees Credit Union for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1988. He also was a member of Hammond Avenue Brethren Church.

Survived by his wife; four grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Siebold and Amy (Chris) Wenham, both of Houston, Alexis (Travis) John of Commerce City, Colo., and Jay Charles Hoffman of Denver, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Deb Hoffman of Waterloo; four nieces, Julie (George) Huber, Lisa (Scot) Drape, Jan (Lyle) Pratt and Leann Hoffman; and friends Roger and Dorothy Goldsberry of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jay F. II; a brother, Charles Ray; and a sister-in-law, Kay Hoffman

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with entombment in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo
