WATERLOO - Evelyn E. Frey, 88, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Country View Care Center of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Manchester, daughter of Eugene and Elmay Robinson Maire. She married Edgar Butters on July 14, 1939, in Iowa City, and they were later divorced. She married Emil E. Frey on Dec. 1, 1978, in Cedar Rapids. He died March 31, 1995.

Mrs. Frey was a homemaker.

Survived by two sons, Ronald (Lois) Butters of Independence and Robert (Elizabeth) Butters of Otterville; four daughters, Darlene Butters of Independence, Shirley Butters of Evansdale, and Rita Butters and Kathy (Otto) Mueller, both of Waterloo; a stepson, Tim Frey of Waterloo; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman Maire of Reinbeck and Mark Maire of Gustine, Calif.; and two sisters, Julia Letchford of Waterloo and Darlene Fender of Gustine.

Preceded in death by two daughters, Rose Kirkbride and Patricia Slater; two grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene, Herbert and Burdette Maire; and two sisters, Beulah Graham and Pauline Maire.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. today and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 540 Boston Ave., Waterloo.
