INDEPENDENCE - Jimmie J. “Jim” Ledtje, 77, of Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born on Nov. 10, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Ernest C. and Alice M. Browne Ledtje. On Oct. 16, 1971, he married Sharla Jean Sherrets in Galena, Ill., and they later divorced.

Jim attended the Waterloo Community Schools and served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Ready Mix, Waterloo, and then started working at Iowa Ham (Tyson Foods), Independence, retiring after 30 years.

Survived by three daughters, Kristin (Bill) Baldwin and Amy Ledtje (Danny Yeoman), both of Independence, and Leah Ledtje of North Liberty; two grandchildren, Addyson and Aylin Baldwin; three brothers, Bob of Elberon, and Warren and Norman, both of Waterloo; and three sisters, Doris Aasgaard of Waterloo, Gertrude Conley of Pennsylvania and Arlene Schares of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ronald, Wilbur and Royal; and a sister, Esther Ledtje.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Independence, where visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Jim enjoyed gardening and was proud of his immaculate yard. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, gambling and shopping. He really enjoyed the Christmas season.
