WATERLOO - Janice Ann Brown, 80, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Friendship Village.

She was born Jan. 28, 1934, in rural Shell Rock, daughter of William A. and Alida DeWitt Nieman. She married Paul Brown on June 8, 1957, in Shell Rock.

Janice graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1951, earned a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College and received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973. She began her teaching career in a rural school in Butler County, also at Shell Rock and Grundy Center. She then went to Dysart Geneseo Union Community Schools and taught for 33 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was an usher and in the Piecemakers sewing group, and was a member of Iowa State Education Association and Becker Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

Survived by her husband; two sons, William "Bill" (Elaine) of Cedar Falls and Kent (Nikki) of Gilbertville; and five grandchildren, Kyle and Tyler and Trever, Cody and Jenna.

Preceded in death by a brother, Jim Nieman.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, preceded by committal services in Orange Township Cemetery. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers may be directed to a fund to be established.
