CEDAR FALLS - Donald J. Andersen, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

He was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Jens and Clara Berstrum Andersen. He married Elvira Hesse on Aug. 3, 1947, in Readlyn.

Donald graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1940, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed contractor with Jens P. Andersen and Sons. He held various offices within Waterloo Sail and Power, and was a member of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, the Waterloo Boat Club, Cedar Valley Woodworkers, Waterloo VFW and the Cedar Falls VFW.

Survived by his wife; his extended family, Beverly (George) Enderson of Dubuque and their children, and Carla Sue (Dennis) Reuter of Gilbertville and their children; a sister-in-law, Norma VanLengen of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Robert and Dale; three brothers-in-law, Arlin Hesse, Waldo Meier and Harvey VanLengen; and five sisters-in-law, Janette Andersen, Bonnie Andersen, Edna Meier, Gladys Hesse and Luween Hesse.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers may be directed to the church, AMVETS Post 49 or Wounded Warriors.
