HUDSON - Leo Charles “Catfish” Halligan, 84, of Hudson, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Waterloo, son of Charles and Neoma Floyd Halligan. Leo graduated from Geneseo (Ill.) High School. He married Betty Hardee on Oct. 1, 1950, in Hudson.

Leo was a millwright for many years with Local 2158, retiring in 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was a cook and in the submarine service. Leo was a member of Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, the AMVETS and the Northeast Iowa Snowmobile Club.

Survived by his wife; seven children, Debra (Dallas) Ehmen, Brenda (John Miller) Fuller, Linda Halligan, Charles Halligan and Lila Halligan, all of Waterloo, Rhonda (Jeff) Simpson of Hatfield, Mo., and Lisa (Skip) Glanert of Preston, Minn.; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Michael of Brandon; and a sister, Mickey McMurray of Nebraska.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Danny and Terry; and a grandson, Charles Joseph Fuller.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery, with full military honors by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sullivan Brothers VFW Post 1623 and the U.S. Navy Honors Detail. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
