WATERLOO - Robert Dale "Bob" Gerken, 88, of Waterloo, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Aug. 9, 1926, south of Sac City, son of John and Jennie Schoneboom Gerken. He married Phyllis J. Bilsten on Aug. 29, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Vail.

He graduated from Sac City High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for Iowa Golden Dairies, Daisy Dairies, Carnation, and then part-time at Waterloo Elks Club, retiring in 2001.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Rick (Deb) and Dave (Teri), both of Cedar Falls, and Rob (Sue) of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Beth Gerken of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandsons; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ethel (Marvin) Wiley of Sac City.

Preceded in death by a son, Douglas Charles; four brothers, Jack, Boyk, Fike and Kenny; six sisters, Gertie Weibers, Martha Wise, Lydia Dietrick, Nellie Young, Helen Goodwies Bunde Powers and Sophia Marshall.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service, with inurnment at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Military honors conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and also for an hour before services Wednesday.
